Art Beast Classes for Spring 2018
Come anytime and drop into one of our classes with paid admission to the studio. All classes are designed to run on an ongoing basis so you do not need to hit a specific start date. Parents are always asked to stay close during the class, and many classes invite and encourage parent participation. All classes can be explored without committing to the full series. However, we encourage families to consider trying a class for 4 to 8 weeks so that children get the opportunity to explore the art or activity, build a relationship with the teacher, and develop rapport with their classmates. Most classes are capped at 12 children and most days there will be plenty of room! We do recommend arriving up to 30 minutes early to ensure a spot in the class. There is a sign up sheet at the front desk, please sign up when you arrive.
Our current Winter/Spring 2018 schedule runs from January 8th - May 31st, 2018
We have a class break the first week of June and new Summer Schedule June 11th - Aug. 24th
*Currently we do not have any classes on weekends
11am Drum Circle (All Ages) with Ms Nancy
Drop-in - No prior sign up required. Adult involvement recommended.
Come one, come all! In this 20-30 minute class, we will explore the elements of music and rhythm as we get to know each other as new friends! Each week we play a name game, introduce two new concepts of music including, but not limited to call and response, tempo, dynamic, timbre, and body percussion. Every class ends with a bold and cacophonous grand finale! The format of this class can be repetitious in order to build familiarity with musical terms, comfortability, and respect around instruments. After our Grand Finale, children help organize and put away the classroom.
10am Little Beasties Sing, Dance & Create! (Ages 2-5) with Ms Leslie
Families are invited to attend this 30-40 minute class where we will move our bodies, share a story, explore sensory art and socialize. Similar to the Baby & Me class but with more active movement songs and a seated art activity, this class is best for children who are mobile and can sit in a chair. Each week will feature singing, dancing, a short book and a simple art activity that emphasizes creativity and process while also introducing little ones to a casual class format and interactions with peers and a teacher. Regular attendance is encouraged to help children become comfortable with the predictable format of the class and will assist this age group in handling transitions. Designed to be age appropriate and accommodating and most importantly to be a welcoming and friendly space for families with little wiggly ones.
10:15am Toddler Time- Sing & Create! (Ages 1-3) with Ms Tonya
A 20-30 minute art and movement class that includes an engaging story and a creative art project using a variety of materials ideal for little hands. This class is intended for toddlers ready to put their coordination and new words into action. Older siblings and babies are welcome to participate in this flexible, yet structured class which is designed to be fun, friendly and predictable. Each week we will sing and dance, share a short story then we’ll end with creating a process oriented art project based on the day’s theme.
11am Art Explorers (Ages 3-7) with Ms Tonya
Children will explore the art elements and design principles used in the creation of art. By using a variety of materials we will investigate lines, shapes, colors, textures as well as space and pattern. Each class will be a fun, process oriented art adventure and will always highlight a particular medium, technique or theme introduced in a way that appeals to young children and allows for self expression.
11:30 am First Steps in Music (All Ages) with Ms Ariana
Through imaginative play, music from around the world and a variety of instruments, your child will explore the world of music. Classes provide expressive singing, engaging with small instruments, and rhythmic activities to help develope your child’s sense of rhythm and pitch.
9:30 am Baby & Me! (Ages 0-2) with Ms Leslie
Baby Beasties are invited to join this 20-30 minute class where we will sing, play and socialize together. Similar to the Little Beasties class but with a slower pace, quieter songs and movement games designed more for one-on-one interactions with caregivers and the teacher. Each week will feature vocabulary rich songs and chants that promote communication and bonding, sharing a short book to create a love of stories and opportunities for little ones to interact with other babies and adults. A secondary goal for this class is to grow our community so please stay and play afterwards in our Infant Area and meet other families- it does take a village! Age appropriately designed to be predictable and accommodating with a consistent format each week and a welcoming and friendly atmosphere.
10-11am Workshop for Big & Little Beasts (All ages) with Ms Resha
